June 17, 2020 (Wed)  |  By Kai  |  In New Opening
Are you concerned about getting back into work after a couple months of working from home during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period?

The threat of the COVID-19 will still be present as Malaysians enter their “New Normal” work lives, scientists around the world are still on the hunt for a vaccine. Businesses all across the country are setting up SOP to ensure the utmost safety for their customers and employees. Although standard SOPs are being implemented, you and every individual in the workforce has a role in this too!

As a member of a workforce, you have a responsibility to yourself, and people around you to be vigilant and cooperative as you go back to work. In this piece, we will lay out some Individual Safety Precautions you can take to minimize everybody’s risk of COVID-19 contraction.

Let’s get started!

1. Carry Self Protective Gear

Now is not the time for fashion, safety and precaution is in trend!

The moment you step outside your house, wear a clean face mask, op for reusable masks as they are better for the environment because you are creating less waste. Depending on your scope of work, you can also use face-shields, goggles, and head-cover. Don’t forget to carry an Alcohol-based Hand Sanitizer wherever you go, there will not always be sanitizers available at work for you to disinfect your hands. If possible, stay away from wearing any metallic accessories like watches and jewelry, these surfaces create extra hazard points on yourself. Lastly, wear clothes which you can wash after returning home.

2. Eating at Work

Going out to our favourite restaurants during our lunch breaks is common practice for most workforces. Note that the virus contamination can happen through food, utensils and common spaces at any restaurants. A better, cost-saving, alternative would be to prepare food and drinks for lunch yourselves and bring them to work. Put all that cooking skills you developed during the MCO to good use!

However, if you still want to eat out in a restaurant, try to ensure that your plates and cutleries are properly washed before serving. Using a Food-Contact Safe Sanitizer is a convenient way to sanitize your eating tools at restaurants by spraying on your personal handkerchief, and using the cloth to wipe them down. Besides that, you can always request for hot water to sanitize your eating tools before using them. Please keep your mask on and only remove them whilst eating.

3. Smart Phone Precautions

In today’s working world, it is near impossible to operate without our smartphones. These devices are embedded, and essentially to
our daily activities. With that being said, smart phones can present a risk of contracting the virus to us when outdoors.

Always sanitize your hands before touching your phone, it is important to take serious precautions with our phones as it is the object
we come into contact with the most! Remember to not place your phone on common surfaces, a handy option would be to keep your phones in a reusable ziplock bag.

4. Transiting to Work

Many Malaysia commute to work via bus and train. When on public transport, try not to touch any windows, seats, railings, etc. Stand if you have to! Always sanitize your hands before and after using public transportation, remember that is everybody’s responsibility to keep each other safe too.

If possible, obtain rides to work from family members to avoid public transportation. By doing so you are able to reduce the cluster of individuals on public transportation that do not have a choice.

5. Cleaning your Work Area

If there is a habit the majority of Malaysians have developed during this period, it is disinfecting/sanitizing everything! Make sure you do the same as you get back to work. Do not count on the fact that the whole office has been disinfected pre coming back into work.

Disinfect your work desk, keyboard, mouse, table, cups, stationery, etc. Be aware of minimizing the touching seat handles, or leaning your elbows on the desk. Instead of using alcoholic wipes to disinfect, a sustainable alternative would be to use Surface Sanitizers to get the job done!

Our battle with this virus is far from over. The only way we overcome this efficiently is if everybody not only cooperates but cares for one another!
