This article was prompted by a discussion about the myriads of personal hygiene and home care products in the market & the inevitable question; does more foam actually enhances the effectiveness of a cleaning product?

The reality is that foam serves no role in a cleaning product other than aesthetic and is not vital for an optimal cleaning product.
Too much foam (as it takes more time to rinse off) may leave residual cleaning agents e.g. in your children's clothing and may result in skin irritation. If you are washing a large earthenware pot, too much foam may block your view resulting in food residues left in the cookware and possible food contamination. On a positive note, foam can serve as an visual guide if you are cleaning a large area like your kitchen sink.

Blends of surfactants plays the primary role in trapping grime or bacteria and removing it from a dirty surface. Another important element is water quality as polluted water may leave undesirable residues.Whether regular or eco-friendly cleaners, read the instructions before you start cleaning! It will not only result in optimal cleaning but will prevent overuse of cleaners, water and energy.

Remember, optimal cleaning must be a process:

Rinse, Clean, Rinse, Wipe Dry.
If you are inclined to, run a finger over the plate for that squeaky clean feeling! 🙂
